Jean Chièze pour Maître Girardier. Charles Favet pour Edouard Herriot. Geneviève Granger pour Lily Rossignol. Albert Haefeli pour Monseigneur Guyot, évêque de Coutance et d'Avranches. Fondée en 1939 par Antoine de Mahuet, Edmond des Robert, André Herry et Daniel Meyer, l'A. F. C. E. L. édite la revue L'Ex-libris français (qui connaîtra 286 numéros entre 1940 et 2023) et organise à Nancy la première exposition internationale d'ex-libris d'après-guerre. L'association est dissoute en 2023 : toutefois, sa base des Ex-Libris AFCEL demeure accessible en ligne : elle comprend quelque 40.000 références avec 30.000 reproductions. L'A. F. K., fondée en 1937, constitue le pendant néerlandophone de l'Association belge des Collectionneurs et Dessinateurs d'Ex-Libris (A. B. C. D. E.). Elle donne plusieurs publications et organise avec succès, en 1955, le troisième congrès européen sur les ex-libris ; elle est toutefois dissoute en 1964. Aucun exemplaire au CCFr. Flat spine divided into six panels by gilt metope bands, with floral corners and elaborate centre motifs completing the 18th century style full gilt design. Single red morocco title label. Front and rear boards feature a delicate f…loral gilt border, while the board edges and headcaps are finished with a hatched pattern gilt roll. Period marbled endpapers, hand-sewn silk endbands. Text block edges in original red stain. Binding in FINE condition. A really beautiful example. Inside some foxing, a few minor marks, large fold out map has a few creases on folds, with a small amount of offsetting. Else very clean & tight. Complete with 42 plates, maps and charts (many folding), in addition to the magnificent folding map, bound in as frontispiece, showing the route of the Centurion.
