Sensing 3D using cameras and sensors, analyzing and modeling 3D for computer vision and computer graphics, and controlling and simulating robot motion all require 3D rotation computation. This book focuses on the computational analysis of 3D rotation, rather than classical motion analysis. It regards noise as random variables and models their probability distributions. It also pursues statistically optimal computation for maximizing the expected accuracy, as is typical of nonlinear optimization. All concepts are illustrated using computer vision applications as examples.Mathematically, the set of all 3D rotations forms a group denoted by SO(3). Exploiting this group property, we obtain an optimal solution analytical or numerically, depending on the problem. Our numerical scheme, which we call the 'Lie algebra method,' is based on the Lie group structure of SO(3).This book also proposes computing projects for readers who want to code the theories presented in this book, describing necessary 3D simulation setting as well as providing real GPS 3D measurement data. To help readers not very familiar with abstract mathematics, a brief overview of quaternion algebra, matrix analysis, Lie groups, and Lie algebras is provided as Appendix at the end of the volume. 172 pp. Englisch.

Its use and importance have exploded over the last 25 years as the need for a robust evidence base has become clear in many scientific areas, including medicine and health, social sciences, education, psychology, ecology, and economics.Recent years have seen an explosion of methods for handling complexities in meta-analysis, including explained and unexplained heterogeneity between studies, publication bias, and sparse data. At the same time, meta-analysis has been extended beyond simple two-group comparisons of continuous and binary outcomes to comparing and ranking the outcomes from multiple groups, to complex observational studies, to assessing heterogeneity of effects, and to survival and multivariate outcomes. Many of these methods are statistically complex and are tailored to specific types of data.Key featuresRigorous coverage of the full range of current statistical methodology used in meta-analysisComprehensive, coherent, and unified overview of the statistical foundations behind meta-analysisDetailed description of the primary methods for both univariate and multivariate dataComputer code to reproduce examples in chaptersThorough review of the literature with thousands of referencesApplications to specific types of biomedical and social science dataSupplementary website with code, data, sample chapters, and errataThis book is for a broad audience of graduate students, researchers, and practitioners interested in the theory and application of statistical methods for meta-analysis. It is written at the level of graduate courses in statistics, but will be of interest to and readable for quantitative scientists from a range of disciplines. The book can be used as a graduate level textbook, as a general reference for methods, or as an introduction to specialized topics using state-of-the art methods. 572 pp. Englisch.

Differentiating between the indirect effect of individual factors from multiple third-variables is a constant problem for modern researchers.Statistical Methods for Mediation, Confounding and Moderation Analysis Using R and SAS introduces general definitions of third-variable effects that are adaptable to all different types of response (categorical or continuous), exposure, or third-variables. Using this method, multiple third- variables of different types can be considered simultaneously, and the indirect effect carried by individual third-variables can be separated from the total effect. Readers of all disciplines familiar with introductory statistics will find this a valuable resource for analysis.Key Features:Parametric and nonparametric method in third variable analysisMultivariate and Multiple third-variable effect analysisMultilevel mediation/confounding analysisThird-variable effect analysis with high-dimensional data Moderation/Interaction effect analysis within the third-variable analysisR packages and SAS macros to implement methods proposed in the book 294 pp. Englisch.
