As a result, such invasive procedures have come under increased scrutiny. Animal welfare considerations aside, scientifically there is no doubt about pain during castration without anesthesia. Moreover, the castration procedure itself is a time-consuming task for the farmer. The last argument is productivity: from an economic and food supply perspective, castrated pigs are actually less productive than boars and produce a lower percentage of lean meat. These facts shed light on why there is a growing interest in the fattening of entire males. The occurrence of an off-odor in the fatty tissue of boars continues to hinder the widespread raising entire boars. Depending on its severity, the so-called boar taint is an unpleasant olfactory perception which can be recognized when heating pork. Current literature and reports often reveal a discrepancy in the number of tainted carcasses reported in scientific literature and abattoir data. Knowledge is lacking on how to implement a sensory quality control of the so-called boar taint. Even though there are chemical analyses able to detect the major causative compounds, androstenone and skatole, there is no affordable automated technique available at the moment which can simultaneously detect both compounds at the slaughter line. To control the occurrence of boar taint, practical implications for a sensory quality control of boar carcasses are needed. This highlights the need for research in sensory methods which apparently are indispensable for quality control. However, chiral amidinate alkaline earth metal complexes have never been reported. Chiral amidinate ligand (S)-HPEBA was introduced into the coordination chemistry of the alkaline earth metal as well as divalent lanthanides, their catalytic activities in hydrophosphination have been investigated. The Ba compound showed high catalytic activities in the hydrophosphination reaction. Moreover, since rare earth metal COT complexes exhibit excellent SMM behavior, it is of great interest to study the magnetic behavior of COT amidinate complexes. Thus, amidine ligand (S)-HPEBA and (S)-HPETA are introduced into the corresponding COT amidinate complexes for magnetic properties studies. The developed models are implemented into the numerical HM-simulator TOUGH2MP-FLAC3D by writing functions with Fortran 90 in an open source code TOUGH2MP and FISH Language in FLAC3D, respectively.The pilot project for CO2 storage in Ketzin is chosen as a case study to validate the developed HM concept. The numerical simulations are performed using the modified HM coupling simulator TOUGH2MP-FLAC3D. The good agreement of the simulation results with the existing research data suggests that the developed coupling concept can be used for the caprock integrity analysis in the pilot project at Ketzin. Thereby, dietary modulation appears to be an efficient tool to beneficially steer microbial composition and metabolism. Thus, the objective of this thesis was to evaluate the use of the pig as potential model for research into dietary modulation of the human gut microbiota. First, a comprehensive literature review was given, comparing the human with the porcine gut microbiota and discussing existing studies concerning microbiota related diseases using the pig as a model. Furthermore, in a study with pigs, the effect of two different types of diets varying substantially in fat and fiber content on gut microbiota and microbial metabolites in feces and digesta samples was determined. High fiber content stimulated bacteria considered beneficial due to potential probiotic properties, particularly in view of human health. On the other hand, a high fat content fostered potential pathogenic bacteria. Thus, the limitations of the confocal microscope are overcome and all-encompassing component visualization in complex drug delivery systems exhibiting challenging structured surfaces is realized. During development of a lipid-based drug permeation model, the successive formation of the permeation barrier during coating is finally described using Raman analysis. Thus, the objective of this thesis was to evaluate the use of the pig as potential model for research into dietary modulation of the human gut microbiota. First, a comprehensive literature review was given, comparing the human with the porcine gut microbiota and discussing existing studies concerning microbiota related diseases using the pig as a model. Furthermore, in a study with pigs, the effect of two different types of diets varying substantially in fat and fiber content on gut microbiota and microbial metabolites in feces and digesta samples was determined. High fiber content stimulated bacteria considered beneficial due to potential probiotic properties, particularly in view of human health. On the other hand, a high fat content fostered potential pathogenic bacteria. Es wird gezeigt, dass vor allem die deutschen Steinkohlekraftwerke in den nächsten Jahren die fluktuierenden Einspeisungen aus erneuerbaren Energien kompensieren werden müssen.Um die Flexibilität von großen thermischen Dampfkraftwerken methodisch zu untersuchen, wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit mit Hilfe eines instationären Simulationsprogrammes ein großes Dampfkraftwerk abgebildet. Zur Aufarbeitung der technischen Grundlagen wird die Funktionsweise von modernen Steinkohlekraftwerken erläutert und anschließend der Begriff der Flexibilität im Detail untersucht. Daraus leiten sich Anforderungen an das zu entwickelnde Modell ab. Anschließend wird im Detail beschrieben, wie diese Anforderungen bei der Modellierung des Referenzkraftwerks umgesetzt werden. Das Gesamtsystem Kraftwerk wird in vier Teilsysteme, Luft- und Rauchgasseite, Brennstoffversorgung, Turbinen mit Vorwärmern und Dampferzeuger zerlegt und beschrieben.
