Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Hardcover. Vol. I. only. Full leather binding with gold stamping on spine and title stamped in gold on red leather label. Boards appear scuffed with bumping to corners, but there are no significant cracks to the leather. A nice, smooth volume you could slip in your pocket. Measures about 3.5 x 5.75 inches. Writing under the pseudonym Don Manuel Alvarez Espriella, Letters from England is an account of a tour supposedly from a foreigner's viewpoint. It is considered to present the most accurate picture of English ways at the beginning of the 19th century. Published in two volumes, but we only have the first volume available currently. Title page dated 1808. 256 pages, and this last ends in the middle of a sentence -- it looks like one or two pages has been torn out. Lots of illegible writing in ink and pencil on the front and rear pasted endpapers, and the title page similarly has been decorated with the names of many previous owners. There is also a two-inch tear, taking out the the top right corner of the page. Pages otherwise free of foreign markings, with only a few light blossoms of foxing here and there. Binding is strong. Overall, this volume is in good condition. Please e-mail us with questions or to request photos. …
