Buch Erstausgabe
Cloth, 8vo, xiv, 129 pp. From a contemporary review: "In the first part are twenty-four works published in Gissing's lifetime and in the second, a further fifteen published after his death. Each work is fully described - title-page transcription, collation, and binding details - and information is given of later editions issued in Gissing's lifetime (with one or two others such as the 1905 reissue of By the Ionian Sea). Extant manuscripts are described. For each work an account is given of its publication, often with summaries of royalties paid to Gissing. There are two appendices ; one is a summary of Gissing's revisions to his early work and the other a chronological list of Gissing's publications to 1905. Professor Collie has written an 8,000-word bio-bibhographical introduction and this, together with the detailed notes on the publication of each work, will make this book essential reading for scholars of Gissing and, indeed, for all concerned with later Victorian literature." Very Good in slightly faded dustwrapper.

Buch
Handmade. Zustand: Very Good. This original booklet from 1970 provides biographical and bibliographical background to "The Opera Medicinalia", originally published in 1570 in Mexico as the first medical book published in the New World. The pages of this booklet are printed on gray colored hand-made paper; illustrations with plates that are printed on glossy paper and mainly show images of editions and drawings from the original and other related works. The tips of the pages have roughed edges and are irregular, and the assembly of this volume seems as if the intent is to make this look like an old hand-made booklet. It is also indicated that this is a limited edition of 250 copies only. A space is provided for the number of this edition. However, the number of this copy is not provided probably because this appears to be a writer's proof, not the final volume, as evidenced by a hand-written note (in pencil?) by the prior owner at the top of the front cover: "This is rough bound copy not ac original". Throughout the book there are also indications that the prior owner has highlighted several passages with vertical pencil lines in the margin. It does not appear that the facsimile of the 'Opera Medicinalia' is included - only the commentary by Francisco Guerra, all in English. Includes a bibliography of related works. Measures 4.75" x 6.75" with 77 pages. Minor stains to covers, otherwise in every good condition.
