In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. A moral cautionary tale of mysterious origin, created in the 19th century, but possibly published for the first time in this well-produced and multi-coloured booklet. The tale is about two rabbits and what happens to them both after they find the butcher's boy has left his tray by a stile, with some pork in it. The book was printed in 1987 at the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum Press in Cambridge and obviously designed - in homage to A.Bouchette, about whom very little is known - to be an 'amuse bouche'. Largely in very good condition, its defects would seem to arise from having been held out to be read aloud. Hence some faint signs of creasing to the pages, about finger-length in, and some small faint stains at some of the outer corners, where we guess somebody has turned with a hint of drama from page to page. There's also just a little bit of rubbing in the bottom front right-hand corner of the tactile grey card jacket. Tucked into the book - and a little spotted at both ends - is a Christmas greetings slip from Michael and Patricia Jaffé and their family (Daniel, Deborah, Dorothea, Benjamin). Michael Jaffé was director of the Fitzwilliam Museum from 1973 to 1990. A Dorset angle - we always like a Dorset angle - Mr Jaffé owned the country house Clifton Maybank in west Dorset. This is where the poet Sir Thomas Wyatt died in 1542 (unless you believe, as the poet Alice Oswald has suggested, that Wyatt faked his death).
