These volumes contain; The Seasons, Liberty, The Castle of Indolence, Poems on Several Occasions, Vol 2: Sophonisba, Agamemnon, Alfred etc, and Coriolanus.

Berwick was a successful general in the pay of Louis XIV of France. The author, Guillaume Plantavit de la Pause, Abbé de Margon (1684-c1760), was born in Béziers on April 2, 1684 and was baptized at the Château de Margon on June 16, 1686. Edges only mildly worn, front hinge starting but firm, bookplate removed from fep, bookseller's stamp on ffep, otherwise unmarked, tight, square, and clean. Extremely scarce Irish edition, published in the same year as the first edition, 1738. VERY GOOD. . 12mo 7" - 7½" tall. 432 pp.

Samuel Clarke was among those who delivered Boyle's Lectures. He was a friend of Isaac Newton, and translated Newton's Opticks, while defending him from the criticisms of Leibniz. The first of the two works included in this volume was published from the author's manuscript by John Clarke, D.D., Dean of Sarum, and is the first Irish edition of the work. The second work comprises three essays written by S. Clarke, which had previously been published in Ireland, but appear together with the Exposition here for the first time.

With the exceptions noted, a fine, clean and complete copy. A rare and desirable work that went through a number of editions, all sought-after, especially when the maps are in crisp condition. The copper-engraved folding maps include the World in double-hemisphere (showing California as an island), Europe, Scandinavia, Muscovy in Europe, France, Germany, Poland, Spain and Portugal, Italy, Turkey in Europe, Scotland, England, Ireland, Asia, Africa, North America (showing California as an island), and South America, all by the famous cartographer, John Senex.
