The writer started to keep diaries to hold in memory the details of an experience of love. In doing this she discovered so much else to love amongst the ordinary seeming events of life in a small beau…tiful area of North Wales that she decided to collect entries from her diaries so that others might share her record of the love she found in such living. During the depression years the writer's parents moved from Barrow in Furness to Manchester to Rhyl and back to Barrow, where she finished her chequered education at the Grammar School. There she learnt to value Literature and Drama, while the area round Barrow, including the Lake District, awoke in her an appreciation of natural beauty, which North Wales was later to satisfy. The writer first sampled adult life as a shop assistant, then as a secretary to her uncle in Colwyn Bay, until his death. During this period she gained an external teaching diploma for Speech and Drama, and the War found her as a teacher and secretary at the Froebelian School in Rhos. There she learnt about Froebelian Kindergarten theories (now universally adopted) and these inspired her to write her own scripts for certain lessons, which led eventually to stories and plays being broadcast regularly on Children's Hour, Listen With Mother and Schools programmes, and appearing in School Readers, Child Education and annuals. Meanwhile she formed her own School of Speech and Drama which continued till her Mother became frail and in need of more attention; so she decided to aim for a degree through a Correspondence Course. At this time she started her Diaries, when she was forty seven.
