In den WarenkorbFull-Leather. Zustand: Very Good. No dj. Unpublished. George Napier published other works entitled the "Homes and Haunts" of Walter Scott and Alfred Lord Tennyson. This black bulging leatherbound volume encapsulates his efforts towards a similar work on Lord Byron. The book is a bound series of fine gravure photographs on hand-made paper, 63 in all, which are copies of the lantern slides used to illustrate his talks, delivered as "The Travels of Lord Byron". A prospectus for the lecture is laid in, dated 1898 when the talks were delivered in the main Scottish cities, by lime-light illuminated lantern projections. This is therefore the sole record of the author's research, and contains numerous laid-in clippings and papers of relevance to Byron. There are two matching bromide prints of one plate, incredibly sharp and crisp to this day. The author travelled extensively throughout Europe in the footsteps of Byron, taking the pictures himself. The images are briefly annotated with enough information usually to be of value to a researcher, and show the places captured at the turn of the previous century so in a more pristine original state. The author finally concluded that he lacked sufficient passion for Byron to continue the work into print as a "Homes and Haunts" volume. This is therefore the only surviving record of a remarkable body of research into the poet. There are many loose plates at the rear which didn't make the cut, and the total book is about two inches thick. Without all the plates and clippings laid in it would probably shrink to less than an inch. Some of the plates have been stained brown by the acid in newsprint clippings, but not too many as a proportion. The black leather is gilt keylined and still sleek and supple. The spine has simply "Byron" in gilt. Size: 8vo.…

In den Warenkorbgreen cloth. Zustand: Very Good. No dj. Unpublished. George Napier published other works entitled the "Homes and Haunts" of Walter Scott and Alfred Lord Tennyson. This is his personal first edition copy of the green cloth Macmillan "Complete Poetical Works of Wordsworth" published in 1888. What is special about this copy is the incredible amount of research notes and clippings laid-in. These formed the basis for Napiers lecure "The Walks of Wordsworth, illustrated by lime-light". Sadly, only a prospectus for this latter survives, along with a similar one for Robert Burns. Nonetheless, a work on wordsworth charged with greater energy of a keen owner and original researcher you could not wish for. There are envelopes, papers, written notes and marginalia, all emanating from a period early in last century and late in the 1800's. Two bromide prints have unfortunately darkened somewhat, but can still be made out, another bromide panorama is bright and clear. The flyleaf contains a full page copperplate account of the author's involvement with Wordsworth, and there is sufficient context to get a feel for what his lantern lecture may have been like. A chance to acquire a unique unpublished item by this author of other commentaries on writers and poets in the closing years of the victorian era.…
