Softcover. Zustand: VG. Glossy stapled wraps with bw image and black Cyrillic lettering. [16] with 11 bw photos. Text in Russian. With an introductory essay by Goberman and a list of the 11 bw illustrations. "Since the late 1930s, David N. Goberman has been photographing tombstones of the XVIII - early XX century in the Jewish cemeteries of Ukraine and, after the war, Moldova and Western Ukraine. For several decades, he managed to capture and describe the hundreds of carved tombstones at existing and abandoned Jewish cemeteries of the former Jewish towns in Bessarabia , Northern Bukovina and Eastern Galitsii, Moldavi, Chernovitskoy, Ivano-Franskavskoy and Zakarpatskoy regions of Ukraine. The Jewish populations of these villages were destroyed during the war, and most photographs and information about the graves were subsequently destroyed. Therefore, Goberman's collectiom of negatives is unique. In addition, as in Soviet times, the publication of such materials was not possible. David Goberman was actually the first to undertake a systematic study of the graves. However, to publish these photos was only possible in recent years (1990-2000). Bilingual editions of albums of these photos, with annotations, were published in both Russia and the United States: Jewish tombstones in Ukraine and Moldova (1993); Carved Memories: Heritage in Stone from the Russian Jewish Pale ( Carved in memory: heritage in stone from the Pale of Settlement, 2000); The Forgotten Gems: Jewish Tombstones XVIII - early XX century in the Republic of Moldova (2000); The Jewish Tombstones in Ukraine (2001). An exhibition of 70 photographs from Goberman's collection were exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Museum from January to April of 2000. Similar exhibitions were held in Chisinau, Kie , St. Petersburg and Moscow. The Goberman Archive of more than 2,000 negatives was organized in the US by Kenneth A. Pushkin and Anne Sommerfeld Halliwell." Signed by Goberman (author and photographer).

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This Open Access book explores the automated identification of media bias, particularly focusing on bias by word choice in digital media. The increasing prevalence of digital information presents opportunities and challenges for analyzing language, with cultural, geographic, and contextual factors shaping how content is portrayed. Despite the interdisciplinary nature of media bias research across fields like linguistics, psychology, and computer science, existing work often tackles the problem from limited perspectives, lacking comprehensive frameworks and reliable datasets. The book aims to advance the field by addressing these gaps and proposing a systematic approach to media bias detection. It develops feature-based and deep-learning approaches for automated bias detection, including a BERT-based model and MAGPIE, a multi-task learning model. These methods demonstrate improved performance on established benchmarks, showcasing the potential of deep learning in detecting media bias. Finally, the author addresses the practical applications of automated bias detection, such as enhancing news reading with forewarning messages, text annotations, and political classifiers, and examines the impact of bias on social media engagement. 246 pp. Englisch.
