Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. This is an often humorous series of sketches and poems by Charles Jay (1815 - 1884), a New Jersey journalist who ventured to Oceana Co. in his mid-fifties. His sketches are not strictly history, but nevertheless give a glimpse of life in pioneer Michigan during the 1870's written by a journalist and published originally in 1874 in Trenton, New Jersey. Not strictly history, this nevertheless provides a glimpse of what life was like in pioneer Michigan as well as the type of literature that appealed to the people of that era. William Miles of the Clark Historical Library at CMU provides many interesting insights in his introduction. This is a high-quality facsimilie reprint of the original 1874 edition which is now uncommon. A nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. The dust jacket has just a little wear to rear top edge and is now in removable acetate protective cover. Ref: Black 140; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 180 pages.
