[nice tight copy with extremely faint soiling to fore-edge; the jacket has a slight paper-clip indentation at the top of the front panel, slight dog-earing at top of spine, an unobtrusive 2-inch closed tear and associated soft creasing at the bottom right corner of the rear panel]. Memoir by a "successful career woman and award-winning television producer [who] thought she had everything -- until her therapist advised her to go off Valium cold turkey. In the space of a few weeks, she lost the man she loved, a career she adored, and herself. A bit of Sixties-ness, "a satire and very funny in parts, but also a tragedy." Per the jacket blurb, it's "the story of a girl's round trip to the dentist's office" -- but actually there seems to be quite a lot more to it. The action wanders episodically all over California, North and South, involving "cabbies, truck drivers and hub-cap collectors," and "each step of [the heroine's] journey is parallel with some other, [and] past and present mirror each other as do reality and fantasy, each is in balance." (Depends on what you're smoking, I would say.) In one of her adventures, "she signs on as Girl in an experimental movie project." The first of only two novels published by this author. NOISBN.
