A fourth volume (not included here) was published separately in 1989. A distillation of the progress of artificial intelligence technologies up to the point of publication, released during the beginning of the first AI 'boom' of the 1980s. Co-author Edward Feigenbaum was the architect of one of the first 'expert systems,' called Dendral. Extensive bibliography and index follows text of each volume. These bibliographies should prove a useful resource for those interested in reading more about the overall history of artificial intelligence.
