Prepared at the Language and Communication Research Center of Columbia University in fulfillment of a contractual obligation with the Human Relations Area Files. Many contributors. Chapters include Geography, History, People and Languages, Ethnography and Religion, Politics, Economy, etc., with an extensive section of maps. (Many other maps and charts are interspersed throughout the text). Last page of the second volume is a pocket with six small folded maps of the areas being studied. Pages appear to be photocopies or mimeographed in some way, with handwritten inscriptions and numbers already in margins from a prior copy. Measures approx. 5" x 8" with 1000 pages in two hefty volumes. Red covers (some minor tears), black plastic spiral binding still completely intact and in excellent condition.
