BnF, Réserve musique, cote : VM7-1741 et VM24-178 Niccolo Mestrino (1748-1790), fut violon solo dans la chapelle du prince Esterhazy, puis dans celle du comte Erdödy, et se fit un nom dans les concerts en Italie et en Allemagne. Il se rendit, en 1786, à Paris et y remporta un grand succès au Concert spirituel. En 1789, il fut nommé directeur du « Théâtre de Monsieur » par Viotti qui l'estimait beaucoup, puis en 1797, il y fut nommé chef d'orchestre. C'était un très grand musicien. Grand virtuose, il passait pour improviser merveilleusement. COMPLET.

Zustand: fine. A Classic of French Canadian Literature ~ ~ ~ First edition, printed in Quebec and adorned with illustrations by the Quebec painter Suzor-Cote. A special printing was done for France in the name of Librairie Delagrave: it is said that a large number of these copies were lost in a shipwreck, and the others, remaining across the Atlantic, were sold in Canada for one dollar (printed note on the back cover). This is the first copy of this edition we have had. Note, this is some slight shadowing on the fore margins including the title page which is a paper fault not staining, and is not intrusive. - In our experience this is a rare book, certainly in the sympathetic fine binding. 12mo, 18cm, xix,243,[1, numbered xvi]p., with plates and illustrations throughout by Suzor Cote, in beautiful artistic Signed bind by Louis Forest, in full black calf, with applied centred colour illustrations over the spine and both boards, gilt titles, satin velure endpapers in inner gilt dentelles on the endboads, and with addition dramatic colour endpapers, top edges gilt a fine copy, of the first edition, in fine binging, in custom brown fine grain linen clam shell box with the title in gilt on the spine panel.
