Chapters on radio waves and practical applications cover the hyperbolic radio navigation systems then in service, Decca, Loran and Consol, alongside radar and the plan position indicator, echo sounders, electric steering gear and cathodic protection. All three navigation systems have since been retired in favour of GPS, the European Decca chains closing in 2000.
