Neuware -This study explores taxation literature and uses empirical evidence from the period of 1996-2006 to examine tax competition and tax harmonization in Southeast Asia. The study seeks evidence for the existence of tax competition by analyzing recent trends in two groups of measures of taxation: tax rates and tax revenues. Evidence is found for a decline in statutory corporate tax rates, developments commensurate with the existence of tax competition. On the contrary, the tax revenue data presented here, show that the expected decline in total tax revenues has not occurred; indeed, a significant increase has been recorded. It is also supported by empirical evidence of the ratio of corporate tax revenue either relative to GDP or to total tax revenue. The two groups of measures of taxation thus provide apparently inconsistent views of the impact of tax competition. There follows an analysis of the elements of tax competition according to literature, in an attempt to draw out its implications for the experience within the Southeast Asian region. What is more, the portfolio optimization problem is considered in the enlarged market. The optimization problem consists of choosing an optimal portfolio in such a way that the largest expected utility of the terminal wealth is obtained. It identified the methods used by the female teachers in the practice of safer sex and determined the influence of the demographic variables of age, religion, level of education and husbands'' educational level on their sexual negotiation skills and safer sex practices. The descriptive survey design was employed. The population consists of married female teachers selected from both public and private secondary schools. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 150 married female teachers from 10 secondary schools. The results of this study showed that the major methods of practicing safer sex adopted by the majority of respondents were completely avoiding sexual intercourse till pregnancy is desired (80.0%), avoiding sexual intercourse on days when conception is most likely (57.7%), injections taken periodically (50.0%) and I.U.D. (50.0%).
