paperback. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Charles Waterton was a traveller, a 'larger than life' person and an inventive taxidermist, now regarded as one of Britain's great eccentrics. His activities, and the aggravation he caused, continue to fascinate, inspire and amuse even 150 years after his death. His famous book Wanderings in South America, published in 1825, described his travels at a time when few people made such journeys. Taxidermy was his passion. He used his skill to fabricate imaginary creatures, forming three-dimensional religious and political cartoons, lampooning issues and people that attracted his ire. His surviving specimens offer a fascinating insight into the skill and ideas of a controversial and idiosyncratic nineteenth century naturalist. This book focuses on his taxidermy, a prominent topic that has never been critically examined in any of the previous accounts, despite the key role it played in Waterton's life. .…

ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (New, Paperback, 2026). 2026 1st edition. Large 4to paperback (210 x 280mm). Pp116. Colour photographs, colour and b/w illustrations, bibliography. A fine unread paperback. Signed by the author. Betwen 1892 and 1930 a great number of specimens of rare birds were recorded in the Hastings area, many of which came through the hands of local taxidermist, George Bristow. In 1962, the authenticity of these records was challenged through the journal, British Birds. Subsequently 595 of these records were "struck off" by the Official List of British Birds. The resulting scandal became known as the Hastings Rarities Affair, and many people believed that the records were fraudulent. Dr Pat Morris examines the evidence and comes to the conclusion that the records were most likely valid, and explains the improbability of anyone being able to produce so many fresh dead specimens from all around the world. It is known that only 100 copies have been printed. .…
