First edition, first printing (per publisher's requisite statement and number line upon copyright page) INSCRIBED, DATED, AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [12], i-xii, 222 pages. Paperback: H 22.75cm x L 19cm. Glossy paper covers lightly rubbed. Light wrinkle at top fore-edge corner of pages 109-110; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. Author's five-line ink inscription "To The Honorable | Livingston Family: | With my love, respect, and appreciation | Jhoongoo Rhee | Jan. 4, 2001" on front cover's blank verso. Laid-in between front cover verso and opposing title page is a folded sheet of United States Representative Robert L. Livingston's congressional office stationery further evidencing the book's provenance. Republican Bob Livingston served as U.S. Representative from Louisiana's 1st District from 1977 to 1999 and chaired the House Appropriations Committee from 1995 to 1999 as well as being House Speaker-designate before his resignation from office. Livingston is a martial arts black belt and trained with Rhee and the Congressman is quoted on page 209. Born in 1932 in Japanese-occupied Korea, 10th dan Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee emigrated to the United States in the 1950s and, in 1962, opened the first of a chain of martial arts studios in the Washington, DC area all leading to his renown as an instructor and as the "Father of American Taekwondo."
