The açaí stone is the by-product of the extraction of açaí pulp, the fruit of the E…uterpe oleracea strain, which was used to reinforce the concrete. In this context, the objective of this study is to evaluate the mechanical testing of the cement-based composite material reinforced with the açaí stone and with the ashes from the açaí stone. Initially, concrete specimens with a 2:4:6 trace were produced using the açaí kernel and the açaí kernel ash, replacing sand with ash. The stones were exposed to the sun, soon after, to obtain the ashes the material was roasted and ground, to be mixed with concrete. The results of the mechanical compression properties for the composites showed positive results regarding the absorption of resistance for the composite reinforced with the ashes of the açaí stone. 52 pp. Englisch.

The earthquake of January 12, 2010, has accentuated existing gaps and questions Haiti's capacity to respond.…More than 60% of the habitat in this region has been heavily damaged and the quest for housing has become the priority for the Haitian population. Since then, the government and other actors have been working to rebuild the country and relocate affected families. The apparent strategies put in place to deal with this situation have appeared to be an uninterrupted series of failures; nearly one million families are still in tents two years after the earthquake. Analysis of practices shows that the situation is complex and the elements of response are at several levels: social, urban, organizational and financial.The objective of this work has been to provide possible solutions through the efforts made by HOPE WORLDWIDE-HAITI to enable a hundred or so families to have access to a safe roof, being an essential element for the safety of individuals whose families are deprived of it. 52 pp. Englisch.

In order to better understand and improve the functioning of this system, this contribution to the study of household waste behaviour is made. Degree and quota… sampling methods were used for the selection of 122 households across 4 CUPP neighbourhoods, two of which were residential and two unstructured. Two periods of observational surveys were carried out in January-February 2007. As a result, 7 categories of waste are produced among CUPP households. All households reject a majority organic fraction. The major concern of households is to get rid of waste. Women are primarily responsible for waste management regardless of the level of standing of the district. Recovery practices are limited and the bulk of the waste is either burnt or deposited in nature. The presence and multiplication of collection points in the CUPP are encouraged by the collection agencies and contribute enormously to the ugliness of the city.Keywords: Household waste - Household behaviour - CUPP. 56 pp. Englisch.
