Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. These two hundred year old leather bound volumes carry the bookplate of Joshua Edward Cooper (1759-1837) of Markree Castle, Sligo, Ireland. He was MP for County Sligo in the Irish House of Commons and after the Act of Union sat in the House of Commons in London until 1806. According to the Dictionary of Irish Biography, he replaced Catholic leaseholders with Protestants to acquire more voting power, which caused considerable resentment and which may have been the reason that his house was sacked in 1798 during the Rebellion. These volumes contain various interesting articles form the popular 18th century journal, "The Spectator". Volume VI is in the better condition as internally it is clean with a few spots and externally has its spine. The spine is divided into six panels by five raised bands. Plenty of gilt on spine and both volumes have a gilt border back and front. Volume I is in poor condition with spine missing and some staining from tea or coffee. The condition of Volume VI is good and that of Volume I is poor. There are no pen marks or inscriptions. Please examine all seller photos.…

Zustand: poor. Hardcover books, A New edition 1811 in a twelve volume set . Illustrated with two maps by Thos. Kitchin of the Eastern and Western parts of the Roman Empire. Each book is bound in half-leather with decorated gilt panels to spine. The title panel and Volume Number panel in gilt on black. Marbled paper covered boards with brown endpapers. Each book carries the armorial bookplate of John James Lecky. Lecky was born in 1799 and was magistrate and deputy lieutenant of County Carlow where he served as High Sheriff in 1828. The books and contents are Very Good with light foxing in places. The maps are Very Good with the odd short closed tear to edges and in places poorly folded. Volume IV lacks it's Volume Number . The Bindings are firm and tight. There is some rubbing to covers as you would expect for books over 200 years old but they still have a pleasing antiquarian appearance. Pictures available.…
