The goods traded by the Chinese include porcelain, gold, slaves and food supplies. It can be inferred that through Chinese traders the local pandays (blacksmiths) got hold of iron that they used for different kinds of tools. In the archaeological sites uncovered in the historic district of Cebu, much material has been found that needs further study and interpretation. Anhand einer minutiösen praxeologischen Untersuchung wird gezeigt, dass die elitenorientierten Demokratisierungsbemühungen und das Paradigma der politischen Öffnung durch wirtschaftliche Liberalisierung eher eine Verhärtung der autokratischen Regime zur Folge hatten. Allerdings wird auch offensichtlich, dass der fehlende reformatorische Impetus der nordafrikanischen Eliten mit den Interessen einiger wichtiger politischer und wirtschaftlicher Akteure innerhalb der EU übereinstimmte. This book examines religion's therapeutic potential, concentrating on aspects of Catholicism as manifestations of Max Weber's prosocial concept of 'brotherliness'. This line of enquiry is approached both on a macro level, looking at institutional religion, and on a micro level, looking at personal beliefs. The author examines such issues as the power of the institutional church in disseminating collectively orientated ideas; the public response to mental illness in Ireland over the past two centuries; the tendency within the field of psychology to pathologise belief systems and instrumentalise religious coping; and processes of secularisation, socialisation and ritualisation, which can either assist in or hinder the subjective adaptation of religious ideas. It chronicles the policy process (functional cooperation) and policy tools (lessons-drawing, externalization and policy transfer) of regionalization and highlights, from a cooperation and collaboration perspective, the importance of time, space, and geographic proximity and their roles in furthering convergence. The book's analyses conclude by showing that, based on the semantics of harmonization, educational isomorphism occurs in cyclical waves and that the fifteen member states of CARICOM only cooperate when it is in their best interest, irrespective of the policy outcome. Therefore, the isomorphic tendencies that exist at the regional level are not - or not primarily - the result of a world polity as hypothesized by neo-institutionalist theory, but rather that of collective choices to confront both challenges and opportunities of globalization and global competition. 344 pp. Englisch.
