Neuware -Der norwegisch-dänische Philosoph und Naturforscher Henrich Steffens (1773-1845) hat den größten Teil seines Lebens in Deutschland zugebracht ¿ er war Professor in Halle, dann in Breslau und schließlich ab 1832 in Berlin. Seine Autobiographie Was ich erlebte (10 Bände, 1844) gilt als eine vorzügliche Quelle für die Kulturgeschichte der deutschen Romantik. Im Wintersemester 1802/03 hielt er die erste Serie von philosophischen Vorlesungen, in denen er seinen Kopenhagener Zuhörern seine Naturphilosophie vermittelte. Diese hatte er, ausgehend von Spinoza und insbesondere von Schelling, sich während seiner ersten Jahre in Deutschland erarbeitet, als er in Jena mit dem Kreis der «neuen Schule», also der Jenaer Universalromantik, zusammentraf und im sächsischen Freiberg seine früher in Kopenhagen begonnenen Studien der Mineralogie fortsetzte. Er ging in seiner Philosophie über Schelling hinaus, da er Philosophie und Naturwissenschaft intensiver zu verbinden wußte, als es jener getan hatte. Für die dänische (und später auch für die schwedische) Literatur hatten diese Vorlesungen große Bedeutung. Darüber hinaus können sie als ein Kompendium romantischer Naturphilosophie gelesen werden. Diese Vorlesungen werden hier zum ersten Mal ins Deutsche übersetzt.
