These four volumes contain together 214 entries for Golden Cockerel publications, and listings of 96 general prospectuses and 100 prospectuses for individual works. Entries contain standard bibliographic information followed by Sandford's comments on the author, the work, the printing, the edition, the illustrator, and/or whatever else he wishes to mention. There are 200 illustrations of woodcuts and wood engravings by about 40 different illustrators: Book illustrations, title page designs, borders, head- and tailpieces, vignettes, and more than enough variations on the Golden Cockerel device.
