Quite audacious. They were a `tip-of-the-hat' to the oilpatch wealth developed at Turner Valley in the 1920's. Herron's passions were Palomino's, goose hunting and Calgary Stampeder football. His company was Okalta Oils. 198 pages published w/ the encouragement of Herron's wife - Marj. Cond : Blue boards with silver lettering on face and spine. This curious little piece of Calgary ephemera is 52 pages long with blank spaces here and there for your personal added notes - of which there are several. First page is the city council page - that would be `council of the sorority'. Mary McDonald of 5A Street West was president. Exemplar Chapter members come next, followed by Alpha Chapter, Delta Chapter, Eta Chapter, and Theta Chapter. Sampling some of the members : Mrs. Geordie Brooks lived on Crescent Road, Mabel Attwood lived in the Anderson Apts. Mrs. Pauline Bridgeman lived on Roxboro Glen Road, Jeannette Hacking lived on Vercheres St. and Helen Hohn lived on Royal Avenue. Helen's phone number (most people have one printed adjacent to their name) was W4479 and business M3956, Alice Luch became Alyce Smith, Card cover is golden with black lettering. Hinge rubbed. When ranch or cook jobs were hard to find he tried running a mail route and owning a general store. The time period covered is mostly the `DirtyThirties '. Pieces on the Eden Valley indians, bronc busting, the flood, prairie oysters, Chain Lakes, winter weather, moonshiners and bear-roping. Approx. 185 pages (UNpaginated) of anecdotal local history and reminiscenses. Cond : Boards are grey w/ silver graphic and lettering. Gray jacket with orange (and white0 lettering. End-papers are white. No tears, creases nor folds. Tight, and bright. Three marks by p/o on ffep. D.J. heavily worn or rubbed at all edges. Excellent reading copy. Quote (p. 162) : " ._._. I told him it was lucky I had two good saddle horses as I had to use both of them to get her into the corral. Bill says ` Oh she's a pail-bunter, you doesn't have to chase her, you calls her '.
