THis book is an autobiography of the author's life that started in Humboldt County, California in 1932. He wrote the story primarily for his childrren and he tells of growing up and relates all the successes and failures of his life as he remembers them. Proceeds from the sale of this book benefit environmental restoration and education.

The maps on the endpapers have an error for the scale, the author included a paper stating that the scale should be 28 miles to the inch and not 15. Also included is a newspaper article from 1929 about the author, 15 at the time, and his new book, Your Soldier Boy Samuel. The subject was his grandfather.
