"Moll Flanders" was written in 1722, just three years after Defoe wrote his masterpiece, "Robinson Crusoe". This is an early novel depicting the subjugation of women to the wiles of men. Moll was a fictional character, but her plight was based on reality. Defoe was famous for his political pamphlets , which satirized the Church and Tories. In fact Defoe was arrested, fined and placed in the public pillories for 'seditious libel'. We can be thankful that Defoe gave up pamphleteering (mostly) and took up his pen as a novelist. Thanks indeed! for we would not otherwise have been gifted with the wonderful Robinson Crusoe or Moll Flanders, which could only have been created by the mind of Daniel Defoe. It's a very handsome volume. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book which remains clean and attractive , with near-negligible signs of handling (slight rub to bottom text-block edge - mild compression to spine extremities - and soft bumps to board corner tips) The interior is clean and free of writing and free of marking. There is a touch of shelf-rub to the bottom edge of the text-block. Sans dust-jacket.

CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book which remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted :: EXTERIOR : There is a slim line of fading to the head of the spine, else all is clean and bright, with strong color. There is a slight yawn to the boards at the fore-edge. BINDING : Tight INTERIOR : Clean and free of marking. No writing. No signatures. DUST-JACKET : Bright with good color. There is a two inch closed tear extending up from the bottom edge of the rear panel; there is modest rub and a touch of scuff to the front panel.; a touch of nicking about the boards. The whole is protected from further wear by an archival, clear mylar cover. Front flap still has original 1983 price. (Flap is not clipped).
