All of Coheed and Cambria's albums are concept albums that tell a science fiction storyline called The Amory Wars, a story written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez, which has been transcribed into a series of comic books, as well as a full length novel. The band has released six studio albums, three live albums, and several special-edition releases. In March 1995, after the split of Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever's band called Toxic Parents, they formed a band with Nate Kelley called Beautiful Loser. The band featured Stever on vocals and guitar, Sanchez on guitar, Kelley on drums and Jon Carleo on bass. The group was short-lived, breaking up by June 1995 after an argument over gas money. Stever left the band, and the resulting trio was named Shabütie, a word taken from African tribe chants that means 'naked prey' in the film The Naked Prey. The band spent nearly a year experimenting with a multitude of different musical styles, including punk rock, indie rock, acoustic rock, funk, and heavy metal. When Carleo left the band in August 1996, Kelley recruited Michael Todd to take his place. Todd, who was primarily a guitarist, picked up the bass specifically for Shabütie. As Shabütie, the band wrote dozens of songs and released their first studio demo Plan to Take Over the World in 1999. The band also released The Penelope EP in 1999, shortly after which Stever rejoined the band. Kelley left the band during a performance in late 1999. In the novel, ten people, who have previously been complicit in the deaths of others but have escaped notice or punishment, are tricked into coming onto an island. At Stow's foundry on Second Street, the bell was broken into small pieces, melted down, and cast into a new bell. The two founders decided that the metal was too brittle, and augmented the bell metal by about ten percent, using copper. The bell was ready in March 1753, and Norris reported that the lettering (which included the founders' names and the year) was even clearer on the new bell than on the old. City officials scheduled a public celebration with free food and drink for the testing of the recast bell. When the bell was struck, it did not break, but the sound produced was described by one hearer as like two coal scuttles being banged together. Mocked by the crowd, Pass and Stow hastily took the bell away and again recast it. Einer seiner Onkeln war der Botaniker Günther Beck von Mannagetta und Lerchenau, ein weiterer der k.k. geheime Rat und Vorstand des k.k. Patentamtes Paul. Seine Schulzeit absolvierte er in der Volksschule Hegelgasse und dem Wiener Schottengymnasium, wo er am 9. Juni 1936 die Matura ablegte. Nach einer Militärdienstzeit als Einjährig Freiwilliger 1936/37 studierte er Geologie an der Universität Wien und legte am 10. April 1941 die Lehramtsprüfung für das damalige Unterrichtsfach Naturgeschichte ab. Die Studien erfolgten im Rahmen von Fronturlauben seiner Militärdienstzeit, die ihn nach Polen und Russland brachten. Seine Dissertation behandelt den Oberlauf der Laßnitz, die Vorarbeiten dafür erfolgten aus den Arbeiten im Rahmen der wasserwirtschaftlichen Generalplanung für die Steiermark. Im November 1943 war er im Rahmen der Wehrgeologie in Berlin-Wannsee und Siegen tätig, danach in Frankreich, Italien, Ungarn und der Slowakei. Zuletzt war er Unteroffizier, seine Kriegszeit endete am 17. Mai 1945 mit der Entlassung aus Kriegsgefangenschaft der amerikanischen Armee. Als Assistent arbeitete er bis 10. Die Mumie wurde am 19. September 1991 beim Tisenjoch, nahe dem Hauslabjoch (, ) in den Ötztaler Alpen oberhalb des Niederjochferners in 3210 m Höhe gefunden. Die Entdeckung war schon in den Folgetagen eine mediale Sensation, da der Mann vom Hauslabjoch die einzige erhaltene, durch natürliche Gefriertrocknung konservierte Leiche aus der Kupfersteinzeit (auch als Spät- bzw. Endneolithikum bezeichnet) in Mitteleuropa ist. Die Fundstelle ist eine Gletscher-Querrinne. Das Gletschereis konservierte die Fundobjekte bis zum starken Abtauen im ungewöhnlich heißen Sommer des Jahres 1991. Erst mit dem Rückzug des Gletschers wurde die Fundstelle frei. Die erste wissenschaftliche Publikation erfolgte durch Konrad Spindler von der Universität Innsbruck. Seit März 1998 wird die Gletschermumie im Original im Südtiroler Archäologiemuseum in Bozen ausgestellt. Für die Präsentation wurde eine Kühltechnik entwickelt, die den Gefriertrocknungsgrad optimal erhält. Da Ötzi in der Grenzregion zwischen Nord- und Südtirol und damit zwischen Österreich und Italien gefunden wurde, erhoben zunächst beide Staaten Anspruch auf den Fund. Ursache ist die 1918 vereinbarte Definition der Grenze, die zwischen den Grenzsteinen geradlinig verlief. Obwohl sich der Fundort nördlich der Wasserscheide befindet, liegt er nach dieser Grenzziehung auf italienischem Staatsgebiet. Seit 2006 ist zwar ein neuer Staatsvertrag zwischen Österreich und Italien in Kraft, in der die Wasserscheide als Grenzverlauf bestätigt wird. Auszug: Vimose ist einer der ergiebigsten Waffenopferplätze aus der frühen Eisenzeit. Es handelt sich um ein Moor ungefähr 10 km nordwestlich von Odense auf der dänischen Insel Fünen. Der Name wird heute vom Wort vid = Weide abgeleitet und nicht, wie im 19. Jahrhundert, von vi = Heiligtum. Der zweite Namensteil mose bedeutet Moor. Das Moor, ursprünglich ein Gletschersee, liegt innerhalb eines 600 m langen Talsystems, das von Moränenhügeln umgeben ist. Die Funde stammen im Wesentlichen aus dem südlichen Teil des Moores. In den Jahren zwischen 1848 und 1858 wurden beim Torfstechen immer wieder Waffen und Teile einer Heeresausrüstung gefunden, die in das Dänische Nationalmuseum nach Kopenhagen gebracht wurden. 1865 wurden bei systematischen Ausgrabungen durch den dänischen Archäologen Helvig Conrad Engelhardt auf einem Gebiet von 600 m 2200 Gegenstände gefunden. Aber auch später wurden noch zahlreiche Gegenstände geborgen. Die meisten der insgesamt rund 5000 Gegenstände befinden sich teils im Nationalmuseum von Kopenhagen, teils im Museum von Odense. Sie bilden nur einen Teil der ursprünglich versenkten Gegenstände. Die Gegenstände waren ursprünglich vor der Niederlegung zerstört und dann in einem See deponiert worden. Sie wurden beim Verlanden des Sees allmählich von einer Gyttjaschicht bedeckt. Das führte zu unterschiedlichen Erhaltungsbedingungen zwischen dem basischen Kalkgyttja und dem sauren Torf. Einige Gegenstände weisen Spuren von Verbrennung auf. Die Gegenstände sind in mehreren zeitlich getrennten Phasen deponiert worden und überdecken einen großen Zeitrahmen. Es sind Keramiken aus der vorrömischen Eisenzeit und Holzschnitzereien mit Ornamenten im Tierstil aus der germanischen Eisenzeit anzutreffen. Man unterscheidet drei große Waffenniederlegungen (Vimose 1-3) und zwei kleinere Opferstellen. Die ältesten Funde (Vimose 1) sind Schildbuckel und Lanzenspitzen aus der Periode B2. Ab dem 17. Jahrhundert erlebte der Tabakanbau seine erste Blütezeit und ab der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts begann der Zuckeranbau. Erstmals kam die Bezeichnung 'Perle der Karibik' auf. Zu Verdanken war dies einer rund ein Jahr dauernden Besetzung Havannas durch Großbritannien im Jahre 1762. Die Briten erzwangen die Öffnung Kubas für eigene ökonomische Interessen. Il s'agit d'une biographie fictive, celle de Joseph Valet (Josef Knecht) dont on suit l'éducation, la carrière et l'évolution intellectuelle. L'histoire se déroule principalement en Castalie, province pédagogique et ordre culturel. À travers la vie de Joseph Valet le lecteur découvre une autre manière de vivre la culture, et notamment son expression dans un jeu inédit, le Jeu des perles de verre qui donne son nom au roman. La forme du livre, bien plus que celle du roman, est celle de l'essai biographique. Celui-ci, d'environ 400 pages, est précédé d'une introduction au jeu des perles de verres (env. 40 p.), et comprend en annexe divers écrits laissés par le héros du livre (env. 140 p.): Des poésies de jeunesse ainsi que trois autobiographies fictives. Le jeune Joseph Valet est repéré par ses instituteurs comme un élève très doué. Il reçoit un jour la visite du Maître de Musique, qui vient se rendre compte par lui-même des qualités du garçon. L'examen, qui finalement a plus l'air d'un jeu musical que d'une pénible épreuve, se révèle concluant, et Joseph Valet rejoint l'internat de l'école d'élite de Waldzell, avec l'espoir de rejoindre un jour l'Ordre de Castalie. C'est un tout autre monde qu'il découvre: Une utopie de l'École (puis de l'Université), où on laisse les étudiants choisir leurs matières de prédilection. On voit ainsi Joseph refuser longtemps de participer aux cours sur le jeu des perles de verre, cette discipline pourtant centrale, la plus noble de toutes, parce que la plus abstraite et étrangère au monde.
