Here is a book relating the authentic facts about the old Imperial German Army, its weapons, uniforms, insgnia and accoutrements. Commencing in 1841, the year that the Prussian King, Frederick William IV, adopted Nikolaus V. Dreyse's Zundnadelgehr (needle gun), this book follows all the various types of weapons used in the years between then and 1918. The artillery section treats the varied types of Field Artillery weapons as used throughout World War, 1914-1918, trench mortar artillery, grenades with detailed information as to loads, ranges, etc. The uniform section deals with the diverse uniforms as worn by the various Contingents of the German Armies from 1856 through the new Field Uniform adopted for use by all troops in 1915. Illustrated are insignia of grade, weapib proficiency, helmets and shakos, body armour, swords, bayonets and various items of accountrements. On these pages will be found a wealth of little-known and hard to find facts, all gathered from a multituse of authentic sources, and for the first time compiled into one book. A well-illustrated history of mining in Tuolumne County and comprehensive guide to current mines and mining operations in the county, with a large folded map showing the locations of the county's patent mines inserted at the rear. A key to the mines shown on the map is printed on the last leaf of text. Although largely devoted to mining in the region, there is a two-page historical introduction, followed by a ten-page description of the county, promoting its extensive timberlands and the scenic and recreational attractions in the region. Of interest is the account of the proposed logging of the vast sequoia and pine forest north from the Carl Inn and Tuolumne Grove region northwest of Yosemite Valley to the Calaveras South Grove of big trees, railroad construction to harvest the trees and reach scenic destinations in the Sierra Nevada, including Hetch Hetchy Valley, and use of the county's water resources by the City of San Francisco.
