The limited edition preceded the trade issue and consisted of 985 copies, of which 885 were for sale. This is the complete set of Madeline books published during the author's lifetim…e. It does not include Madeline's Christmas, which was printed as part of McCall's Magazine in 1956 and issued posthumously in book form in 1985. 5 works, quarto. Illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. Original bindings in dust jackets (The Bad Hat issued without jacket, here housed in custom card slipcase). Bookseller's ticket in two vols; Madeline title page with faintly pencilled ownership inscription. Bad Hat with damp stains to a few margins and two closed tears to rear free endpaper; Madeline jacket edges restored; Rescue jacket with long split to spine foot.
