Ultrasonic liquid atomization is a process that uses high frequency sound waves to produce a spray of atomized liquid. It is truly unique among atomization methods. Its principal attributes are: ? soft, low-velocity spray that virtually eliminates overspray ? pressureless operation ? freedom from clogging ? wide range of flow rate capacities, from a few id per minute to several ml per second :ducation ? extraordinary spray-shaping capabilities, from 2 to 450 mm wide patterns ? resistance to corrosion by most chemicals These unique properties have fostered the use of ultrasonic spray technology in a wide variety of applications, both in R&D and industrial settings. From its humble beginnings in the mid-70's, it has matured into a viable method for achieving excellent results in a variety of spray processes. About the author Harvey L. Berger did both his undergraduate and graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, receiving his Ph.D. in Physics in 1969. He has been involved in ultrasonic spray technology for the past 25 years, and is a co-founder of the Sono-Tek Corporation, the world's leader in this field. He holds numerous patents for the designs of ultrasonic nozzles and related equipment, and has authored many technical articles on the subject.
