To this end, most of the material is in fact about stable Mes, by which we mean Mes that admit an invariant probability measure. To state this more precisely and give an overview of the questions we shall be dealing with, we will first introduce some notation and terminology. Let (X,B) be a measurable space, and consider a X-valued Markov chain ~. = {~k' k = 0, 1, . } with transition probability function (t.pJ.) P(x, B), i.e., P(x, B) := Prob (~k+1 E B I ~k = x) for each x E X, B E B, and k = 0,1, . The Me ~. is said to be stable if there exists a probability measure (p.m.) /.l on B such that (\*) VB EB. /.l(B) = Ix /.l(dx) P(x, B) If (\*) holds then /.l is called an invariant p.m. for the Me ~. (or the t.p.f. P). 208 pp. Englisch.

The core of the book is based on lectures given at the International Conference 'Function Spaces, Differential Operators and Nonlinear Analysis' (FSDONA--01) held in Teistungen, Thuringia / Germany, from June 28 to July 4,2001, in honour of his 65th birthday. This was the fifth in a series of meetings organised under the same name by scientists from Finland (Helsinki, Oulu) , the Czech Republic (Prague, Plzen) and Germany (Jena) promoting the collaboration of specialists in East and West, working in these fields. This conference was a very special event because it celebrated Hans Triebel's extraordinary impact on mathematical analysis. The development of the mod ern theory of function spaces in the last 30 years and its application to various branches in both pure and applied mathematics is deeply influenced by his lasting contributions. In a series of books Hans Triebel has given systematic treatments of the theory of function spaces from different points of view, thus revealing its interdependence with interpolation theory, harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, nonlinear operators, entropy, spectral theory and, most recently, anal ysis on fractals. The presented collection of papers is a tribute to Hans Triebel's distinguished work. The book is subdivided into three parts: - Part I contains the two invited lectures by O.V. Besov (Moscow) and D.E. Edmunds (Sussex) having a survey character and honouring Hans Triebel's contributions. 476 pp. Englisch, Deutsch.

Keiiti Aki developed pioneering quantitative methods for extracting useful information fromvarious portions of observed seismograms and applied these methods to manyproblems in the above fields. This volume honors Aki's contributions with review papers and results fromrecent applications by his former students and scientific associatespertaining to topics spawned by his work. Discussed subjects includeanalytical and numerical techniques for calculating dynamic rupture and radiated seismic waves, stochastic models used in engineering seismology, earthquake and volcanic source processes, seismic tomography, properties oflithospheric structures, analysis of scattered waves, and more. The volumewill be useful to students and professional geophysicists alike. 369 pp. Englisch.

The first chapter gives an account of the various growth forms of pathogenic fungi and classifies them based on their sexual cycle and on their RNA/DNA patterns. The second chapter describes the clinical manifestations of human fungal infections, their prevalence and epidemiology. The third chapter is devoted to diverse laboratory methods in the field of diagnosis of fungal infections, and the fourth and main chapter presents a complete overview of current antifungal therapy. The increase in fungal infections and the improvement of therapeutic options leading to a demand for reliable antifungal susceptibility testing is the topic of the closing chapter. The volume aims at the practitioner who wants to be abreast of the latest achievements in this field and advanced students who wish to further their studies in this important domain. 248 pp. Englisch.
