Neuware -As an outgrowth of the advancement in modern control theory during the past 20 years, dynamic modeling and analysis of economic systems has become an important subject in the study of economic theory. Recent developments in dynamic utility, economic planning, and profit optimiza tion, for example, have been greatly influenced by results in optimal control, stabilization, estimation, optimization under conflicts, multi criteria optimization, control of large-scale systems, etc. The great success that has been achieved so far in utilizing modern control theory in economic systems should be attributed to the effort of control theorists as well as economists. Collaboration between the two groups of researchers has proven to be most successful in many instances; nevertheless, the gap between them has existed for some time. Whereas a control theorist frequently sets up a mathematically feasible model to obtain results that permit economic interpretations, an economist is concerned more with the fidelity of the model in representing a real world problem, and results that are obtained (through possibly less mathematical analysis) are due largely to economic insight. The papers appearing in this volume are divided into three parts. In Part I there are five papers on the application of control theory to economic planning. Part II contains five papers on exploration, exploita tion, and pricing of extractive natural resources. Finally, in Part III, some recent advances in large-scale systems and decentralized control appear.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 280 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications RADAR AND SONAR, PART II is based on the proceedings of the second week of the IMA summer program 'Radar and Sonar'. Week two was devoted to the presentation of problems and solutions of problems in Radar and Sonar. vVe are grat.eful to Alberto Griinbaum, Marvin Bernfeld and Richard Blahut for organizing the program. We also take this opportunity to thank those agencies whose financial support made the summer program possible: the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, the National Security Agency and the Office of Naval Research. A vner Friedman Willard Miller, Jr. PREFACE This volume contains a representative discussion of mathematical problems that arise in radar and sonar and is based on the lectures that were given during the second week of the IMA summer program RADAR AND SONAR, June IS-June 29, 1990. (The first week was devoted to three sets of tutorial lectures and the lecture notes from that part of the program appear in an earlier IMA volume.) The second week was run as a workshop of contributed papers without formal review. The speakers were selected to cover a broad range of problems in this area.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 172 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -The papers of this book are based on a Symposium on Numerical Simulation in Oil Recovery held at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications. The major research emphasis is on the modeling of fractures, heterogeneities, viscous fingering, and diffusion-dispersion effects in the flow in porous media. This volume contains seventeen comprehensive papers on the latest developments in this exciting subject. Its diverse presentation brings together the various disciplines of applied mathematics, chemical engineering, physics and hydrology.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 300 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The selective combination of physical, biochemical, and immunological prin ciples, along with new knowledge concerning the biology of cells and advance ments in engineering and computer sciences, has made possible the emergence of highly sophisticated and powerful methods for the analysis of cells and their constituents. This series on Cell Analysis is, therefore, aiming at providing the theoretical and practical background on how these methods work and what kind of information can be obtained. Cell Analysis will cover techniques on cell separation, cell identification and classification, characterization of orga nized cellular components, functional properties of cells, and cell interactions. Applications in cell biology, immunology, genetics, toxicology, specific diseases, diagnostics and therapeutics, and other areas will be covered whenever relevant results exist.
