Except for a general mathematical background no preliminary knowledge is presupposed, but some experience in programming may be helpful. While classical treatises on computability and decidability are oriented towards the foundation of mathematics or mathematical logic, the present notes try to relate the subject to computer science. Therefore, the expose is based on the use of strings rather than on that of natural numbers; the notations are similar to those in use in automata theory; in addition, according to a common usage in formal language theory, most of the proofs of computability are reduced to the semi-formal description of a procedure the constructivity of which is apparent to anybody having some programming experience. Notwithstanding these facts the subject is treated with mathematical rigor; a great number of informal comments are inserted in order to allow a good intuitive understanding. I am indebted to all those who drew my attention to some errors and ambiguities in a preliminary version of these Notes. I want also to thank Miss L.A. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Wir betrachten hier jenen Teil der Grundlagenforschung, der die 'intui tive' oder 'inhaltliche' Mathematik, d. h. das, was ein gew6hnlicher Mathematiker unter Mathematik versteht, systematisch beschreibt und analysiert. Im deskriptiven Teil wird die informale Mathematik in einer formal en Sprache (z. B. der der Mengenlehre) neu formuliert. Eine solche Sprache hat, verglichen mit der Sprache der informalen Mathematik, ein sehr eingeschr~nktes Vokabular und eine vollkommen exakte Grammatik; dadurch wird naturlich die Pr~zision erh6ht und der Blick von Unwesentlichem befreit. Im Gegensatz zu einer weitverbreiteten Ansicht, die weiter unten diskutiert wird, ist die Neuformulierung (die wie jede Beschreibung eines intuitiv erfa~ten Gegenstandes wesentlich von unserer Auffassung seiner Natur abh~ngt) nur ein Hilfsmittel der Grundlagenforschung: es handelt sich n~mlich darum, die Bedeutung von S~tzen der informalen Mathematik richtig wiederzugeben und nicht deren syntaktische Struktur; denn der ~u~eren Form nach haben die formale und die informale Sprache (glucklicherweisel) wenig gemeinsam. Auch sollte man bemerken, da~ die durch die Umformulierung erzielte Pr~zision zwar die technische Entwick lung f6rdert, aber kaum geeignet ist, Schwierigkeiten zu beseitigen, die aus Unzul~nglichkeiten der ursprunglichen Begriffe entstehen (gerade das Gegenteil ist der Fall: durch Nachdenken uber informale Begriffe werden wir zu einer guten Formalisierung gefuhrt). In den wohlbekannten 'Krisen' (siehe z. B. Teil A, Abschnitt 1 weiter unten) ruhrten die Widerspruche von durchaus expliziten Prinzipien (Axiomen, Regeln) her, so da~ diese Schwierigkeiten nichts mit ungenugender formaler Pr~zision zu tun hatten; das Problem lag vielmehr darin, unter verschiedenen, formal pr~zisen Prinzipien die gultigen herauszufinden. 296 pp. Deutsch.

Eine starke und lebendige Ausdrucks kraft geht weiterhin von der Darstellung astronomischer Begeben heiten in Stein oder Keramik aus. Die Deutung dieser kiinstleri schen Darstellungen ermoglicht es dem Astronom, das in ihnen steckende himmelskundliche Gedankengut zu ahnen oder zu ver stehen. In diesem Buch soll der Versuch unternommen werden, dieses astronomische Wissen und vor allen Dingen auch die Beobachtungs methoden der Inka und ,der noch friiheren Volker des alten Peru ans Licht zu bringen. (1962) ist bekannt, daß bei den Säugetieren neben dem Parathormon ein zweiter Faktor die Calcium-Homöostase beeinflußt, der von Copp et al. 'Calcitonin' genannt wurde. Experimente von Hirsch et al. (1963) ergaben, daß die Schilddrüse die Quelle dieses humoralen Faktors ist. Er wurde deshalb auch als 'Thyrocalcitonin' bezeichnet. Auf Grund der Ergebnisse von Perfusionsversuchen mit calciumreichem Blut an der Schilddrüse vermuteten Foster et al. (1964), daß das Calcitonin aus den sog. parafollikulären Zellen der Thyreoidea stamme. Diese Vermutung wurde von Hargis et al. (1966) auf Grund immunohistochemischer Befunde bestritten, dann aber mit verbesserter Methode von Bussolati und Pearse (1967) und Kracht et al. als zutreffend (1968) bestätigt. Die parafollikulären Zellen wurden in der Folge von Pearse (1966) 'C-Zellen' genannt. Lichtmikroskopisch-histochemische, cytochemische und elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchungen zeigten, daß sie bei allen untersuchten Säugern - einschließlich des Menschen - ein eigenständi ges Zellensystem in der Schilddrüse bilden, das klar vom thyroxinsynthetisieren den Follikelepithel abgegrenzt ist (Gabe, 1956; Sandritter et al. , 1956; Ekholm, 1964; Luciano und Reale, 1964; Pearse, 1966; Carvalheira und Pearse, 1967; Welsch und Pearse, 1969; Welsch et al. , 1969; Kalina etal. , 1970; Kracht etal. , 1970; Solcia et al. , 1970). 56 pp. Deutsch.
