Hardback, size approx 11.5 x 9 inches. Full period style binding in hand-stained & sprinkled calf. Flat spine divided into six panels by gilt metope bands, with floral corners and elaborate centre motifs completing the 18th century style full gilt design. Single red morocco title label. Front and rear boards feature a delicate floral gilt border, while the board edges and headcaps are finished with a hatched pattern gilt roll. Period marbled endpapers, hand-sewn silk endbands. Text block edges in original red stain. Binding in FINE condition. A really beautiful example. Inside some foxing, a few minor marks, large fold out map has a few creases on folds, with a small amount of offsetting. Else very clean & tight. Complete with 42 plates, maps and charts (many folding), in addition to the magnificent folding map, bound in as frontispiece, showing the route of the Centurion.
