Paperback. Zustand: Good. The second of three text books, published in association with the Open University, which offer an innovatory exploration of art and visual culture. Through carefully chosen themes and topics rather than through a general survey, the volumes approach the process of looking at works of art in terms of their audiences, functions and cross-cultural contexts. While focused on painting, sculpture and architecture, it also explores a wide range of visual culture in a variety of media and methods. "1600-1850 Academy to Avant-Garde" interrogates labels used in standard histories of the art of this period (Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Classicism and Romanticism) and examines both established and recent art-historical methodologies, including formalism, iconology, spectatorship and reception, identity and difference. Key topics, including "Baroque Rome", "Dutch Painting of the Golden Age", "Georgian London", the "Paris Salon", and the impact of the discovery of the South Pacific. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Paperback. Zustand: Fine. Look Again is a new series of short books from Tate Publishing, opening up the conversation about British art over the last 500 years, and exploring what art has to tell us about our lives today. Written by leading voices from the worlds of literature, art and culture, each book sheds new light on some of the most well-known, best-loved and thought-provoking artworks in the national collection, and asks us to look again. How we dress can be a deeply personal matter. But can dress also be the object of deeper artistic enquiry? And can it tell us something more about the societies in which we live? These are the questions at the heart of Fashion. From Piet Mondrian and Yves Saint Laurent to Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama, there is a long-standing relationship between art and the high fashion world: artists can influence designers, and avant-garde fashion can also inspire avant-garde art. But what about the everyday dress that features in so many of the works in Britain's national collection of art? What can we learn by inspecting the turban on the head of a footman, the fabric gathered in the lap of a seamstress or the pleats of a dress swirling around the neck of a girl walking on her hands on a beach? In Look Again: Fashion, esteemed academic and broadcaster Shahidha Bari guides us through the surprising insights that come of these questions - and reveals that thinking about dress can take us into the heart of society, culture, and politics.

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Examining performance and politics in post-revolutionary Cuba, "Dangerous Moves" challenges the understanding of performance art and political engagement through a sustained analysis of the contemporary experience in Cuba. Coco Fusco analyzes the ways that the Cuban state has wielded influence over artists in recent times, arguing that in a context in which overt political speech is subject to censorship, the language of performance emerges as the favored means of social commentary. Focusing on a range of performative practices in visual art, music, poetry, and political activism, Fusco examines the relationship between the abject body in performance and the greater body politic of a state officially defined as revolutionary yet seeking to limit and constrain dissent. "Dangerous Moves" is a key addition to the canon of writing on contemporary performance art. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. This provocative and entertaining book examines how certain artists, from Salvador Dali to Damien Hirst, have wholeheartedly embraced both the cult of celebrity and the commercial cut and thrust of the art market. It poses the question: which came first, the global media or this new breed of artist? Would a figure like Andy Warhol have risen to a pre-eminent position in daily life in the latter half of the 20th century without a celebrity-hungry media reporting on his actions? The book examines those who have engaged directly with trading their own wares, including Keith Haring selling his pictures in his Pop Shop, Takashi Murakami licensing his designs to big business, and Hirst auctioning his own works at Sotheby's. They are joined by those who have taken an active role in manufacturing their own public personae, including Gilbert & George, Martin Kippenberger and Tracey Emin. Jeff Koons' celebration in painting and sculpture of his marriage and sexual union with porn star and latter-day politician Illona Staller (aka La Cicciolina) is just one example of an artist crossing the usually accepted boundaries between the public and the personal, revelling in and manipulating the response of the media to their own actions. Other artists examined in the book have adopted different strategies, including working under assumed identities, appropriating the visual culture of ethnic groups to which they don't belong or adopting the identities of prostitutes, stalkers or avid fans. All play their part in this fascinating and extensively illustrated book that accompanies a major exhibition at Tate Modern. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Tate Britain: Look Again: the National Collection of British Art reimagined for today. Feminism is a powerful new interpretation of British art from an intersectional feminist perspective, from one of Britains greatest writers. Art museums have long drawn me into their spaces. The infinite possibilities of the language of art opens me up to methods of communication quite unlike my own. I am fascinated by the most interesting and adventurous artists, who are surely among the most innovative thinkers on the planet. I am in awe of their talent and endless inventiveness, and my imagination is nourished by theirs. I am challenged to think differently about how we might understand, recreate, reshape, re-imagine life itself animate, inanimate, spirit. My senses are stimulated, my emotions stirred, my brain whirrs away in the background and I feel very much alive. When I was invited to write this book, my first time writing about art, I immediately knew that I would turn my attention on women and womxn (to include non-binary people) of colour in British art because, similar to the story throughout the arts, either as creator or curator, we havent been very visible. This book is personal about the art Ive seen, and the art Ive loved and my interpretation of the art in the national collection and beyond, from an intersectional feminist perspective. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Patrick Caulfield was a student at the Royal College of Art between 1960-63 alongside David Hockney and Allen Jones. His subject matter draws more from the masters of modern art such as Braque and Gris than from the consumer culture that preoccupied his fellow students. His work is characterised by a reductive, streamlined use of line and the depiction of banal, everyday objects saturated in colour. Caulfield consistently used screenprint for his graphic work following his introduction to the medium by Richard Hamilton and Chris Prater in 1964. The deceptive simplicity of his images, perfectly matched by the aesthetic capacities of the process, is clear throughout the various phases of his printmaking career. During his lifetime the Serpentine Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and the Tate Gallery in London all held major retrospectives of his paintings. More recently his prints were the subject of a survey at Tate Liverpool. Caulfield died in 2005 having made an indelible contribution to British painting and printmaking. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.
