Human asset measurement and reporting. 6. Segmental reporting. 7. Multi column reporting. 8. Readability of corporate report. Bibliography. Corporate reporting has expanded out of all recognition from its early beginnings. Now a days corporate reporting is considered as highly technical multi statement function covering a variety of aspects of corporate financial and social activities and thus bearing little resemblance to the crude tabulations which constituted the reports of companies during the first few decades of the corporate history. This book subscribes to the idea that company financial reporting function should reflect society's needs and expectations as there is a growing consensus that the concepts of growth and profit as measured by traditional balance sheets and income statements are too narrow to reflect the activities of the companies. An organization whether profit oriented or welfare oriented needs to consider both the social and the economic effects of their behaviour. This will necessitate a change in the nature of company reporting which will direct external reports more towards meeting the needs of the society consisting of variety of users with variety of demands for corporate information. This calls for a company's effort in supplying information covering employee matters environmental affairs human assets measurement social performance different segments of the business and different bases of measurement in addition to considering the question of preparing understandable reports. The present work with a sample of 100 companies Annual Reports (representing 40 Indian public sector 40 private sector and 20 foreign companies) investigates the current reporting practices in some of the emerging areas. Along with them the issue of comprehensibility of written messages contained in the reports has also been dealt with. This book will be useful to post graduate students researchers and professionals in this field. 266 pp.

The magnitude and dimension of the problem varies from region to region and received attention of the concerned including the International Labour Organization (ILO). This child labour scenario in Indian context presents a more pathetic picture as most of the children in 6 14 ages are found not in schools but engaged in cattle rearing firewood collection working in small industries household works tea stalls dhabas collecting rags and bottles from waste dumps and even begging. Declaration of the year 1979 as the International Year of the Child has marked a beginning in the direction of taking measures for prohibition and regulation of child labour. In India the Child Labour Act came into force in 1986. The child labour is economically unsound psychologically disastrous physically dangerous and harmful to the child. Children are exploited and exposed to hazardous working conditions and paid a pittance for their long hours of work. These are forced to forego education shouldering responsibilities for beyond their age. Realizing the seriousness of the problem a national seminar on Changing Pattern of the Workforce in India in the new Millennium Policy Imperatives was organiz.

Last two decades saw the maximum growth in terms of development in the already classified developing societies. Third world countries concentrated on lesser developed areas to bring them on par with the main stream so that a balanced and uniform society is achieved. Globalization marked a great impact on the reconstruction of the society. Diffusionalism both theoretically and action oriented saw the uniformity in development in various societies. Poverty was the null point for social reconstruction or in other words various forms of imbalance were the starting point of social reconstruction. Modernization theories emphasized equal exchange for development. In social reconstruction the development was the idea which in turn brings progress. Methodology for progress is either evolutionary change or planned change. Most of the social thinkers are of the opinion that in the present society planned social change is inevitable because of the speed of the various sectors of development. This book extensively analyses the various angles of social reconstruction for social development. Mainly the book focuses on women rural society and social change and health rural society and social change. The book also includes planned methods of social reconstruction of various government programmes and its role on social development. 316 pp.
