Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). 12mo. [N.d., 1957]. Full yellow cloth. 255 pp. Bumping to corners and to edges of boards. Dust jacket chipped at spine ends, corners, and foot of rear cover, long tear to rear joint, a few short tears, sunning to spine, soiling to rear. Set against the background of a rich, gangster-ridden city on the Pacific Coast, James Hadley Chase in this new thriller tells the story of a lone investigator's hunt for his partner's killer. From the opening sentence to the last the tension mounts, as the avenging private eye pursues his quarry through every barrier and trap set up by the hoodlums. Written with the expert technique that gives to all Hadley Chase's novels their tremendous punch and drive, The Guilty are Afraid is a worthy addition to this long list of non-stop, all-action thrillers that have to be read at a sitting.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. First Thus. A fabulously well-preserved copy in almost unread condition with no inscriptions and clean pages throughout the book. The lime green cloth boards look lovely and fresh and the title lettering is nice and crisp. Very minor knocks to the fore edge corner tips. The dust jacket looks as bright as new and is not price clipped. If you inspect it closely there is a tiny scuff at the head of the spine. But you do have to look hard to see it. In all a splendid copy.
