Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Freud Castration complex and the law of the father. 2. The castration complex starcke van ophuijen Alexander and Fenichel. 3. The Freud Jones debate on the feminine castration complex I. Melanie Klein early stages of the oedipal conflict. II. Helen Deutsch. III. Karen Horney. 4. Feminine sexuality Part II Deconstructing Phallocentric sexuality. Partial references. Since the publication of Freud essays Femininity and Feminine Sexuality there has been an interest hitherto unknown in the psycho analytic community a question about the feminine subjectivity self and sexuality. According to Freud the foundation of gendered identity is the castration complex. Since the publication of the above essays the question that raged in the psycho analytic community is this if the fear of castration leads one to adopt a gendered identity then how can a woman ever develop her identity as a woman she does not have a Phallus to be castrated. While the first part of the book deals with this issue and problem of explaining the feminine identity via the theory of castration complex the second part is a response to this Freudian notion of castration complex as the bedrock of gendered identities. Feminists like Luce Irigary and Julia Kristeva have shown that Freud's theory of castration complex cannot be used to explain gendered identities because it is entirely based on the idea that the Phallus is the only sex organ. The book deconstructs this Phallo centric idea and shows that the Phallus is a fetish and really does not hold any true power in society except what we give it culturally. The positive point in this theory is that if women's oppression is cultural and not natural then the current situation can be changed via social revolution. Ultimately a book on famine sexuality encompasses all genders and aim at surpassing the oppression of everyone's desire. 186 pp.

Bibliography. The provision of not less than one third seats for women in PRIs through Seventy Third Constitutional Amendment has paved way for empowerment of women. The finding in this publication is based on primary data and provides a fresh framework to understand the process of empowerment of women. This book argues that three factors influence empowerment of women representatives in PRIs. These are patriarchy and cultural expectations empowering policy environment (such as mandated representation of women in PRIs) and gender relationship in the private domain. The study illustrates that provision of mandated representation of female in PRIs provides an opportunity to a woman to translate her passive reflection and observation on her environment into active agenda or demand. This book describes the unique duality of women agency where resistance and collusion goes together. The overt manifestation of women agency in the public domain is connected to the covert women agency at work in the private domain. Finally based on the research finding an attempt is made to derive some policy suggestions. The findings of this research are of direct relevance for academicians researchers policy makers and NGOs who are working in the area of women's empowerment and local governance. 74 pp.

In the 1960s and 70s a diverse group of political and cultural movements which included women's right to control her reproductive power the politicization of domestic violence via state intervention the incorporation of special job allocation for women the establishment of welfare policies by the liberal state for single mothers and other related rights came under the umbrella phrase Second Wave Feminism. While there remained substantial differences within the politics of feminism at this time one central theme running in the movement was that the personal is the political. This theme remains the slogan for feminist politics round the world today. A pedestrian account of Feminism will tell us that it is all about empowering women an inquiry into the history of feminism and feminist theory with tell us that it is about revolutionizing human relationships. That is why all power relationships and inequalities whether they stem from patriarchy the culture the feudal state the ideological state apparatus the global free market or the social arrangement of compulsory hetero sexuality are feminist concern. In the end feminism and feminist theory remains a revolutionary movement in praxis and theory. 162 pp.

Index. Corruption in its many forms is being seen increasingly as an obstacle to good governance a constraint on economic development an impediment to social equity and eventually a source of political instability and in extreme cases state failure. By almost any indicator of corruption the performance of the South Asian countries has been poor. Corrupt practices in the region have a long history and were sustained during British colonial rule. They flourished during the Second World War and in the context of political and social change in the post independence states. In this volume a group of distinguished scholars and practitioners provides an overview of key issues and examines the varied experiences of the three major countries of South Asia Bangladesh India and Pakistan. The contributors focus on measures designed to address corrupt behaviour domestically and internationally bearing in mind the need to tailor reform efforts to local circumstances. 186 pp.

Index. The Pragiyotishpura or Kamrupa mentioned in the Kalikapurana or in the Jogini Tantra had been dominantly remained under the Mongolian cultural people since 2500 years to 3000 years back. The word Kamrupa changed into Asham Hasam Assam and Asom with the entrance of the Ahoms from the Burmadesh (Myanmar) after 1230 A.D. The Bodos in different parts of this region were according to place known a Dimacha Kachari Barman in Silchar Tippera in Tripura Rabha and Garos in the Southern Assam Mech and Koch kachari in the plain Assam and Meche in the West Bengal and East Nepal. This greater community fragmented in different names in different places have been tried to extract in the book and tried by the author for their unity and integrity to relate them with the Bod province of the Mongoloid region in the North China and the Sivarai mountain of the same region which relates them with their God Sivarai. In fact the Mongolian culture or the Bodo Community in Assam is a very rich culture which have been analytically discussed according to their subcommunities name. The main aim of the study on them was to unite uplift and identify them to the world stage as a culturally rich community though socially and literally backward in comparison to other communities. The great Vaisnavite prophet Sri Sri Sandardeva tried his best to bring all communities under the Ek Sarana Bhagamati Dharma but the Ahoms were irritated with him. His educational principle flourished at the time of king Naranarayana of the Koch dynasty. This has been studied in The Bodos in Assam A Socio Cultural study. 232 pp.

This book focuses on the multiple interactions and exchanges between Sino-Indian artists in the early part of 20th century in a large backdrop of modern art discourse in Asia. This backdrop witnessed a quest for Asian modernity in colonial and post dynastic Asian nations. Bengal school in particular paved a new artistic and aesthetic movement under the leadership of Abanindra Nath Tagore and E.B. Havell. In this process, Okakura Tenshin a leading Japanese scholar and art critic played a seminal role to facilitate the movement and through his initiation artists of Bengal came in touch with Japanese artists to comprehend the remarkable success of new Japanese Art. China a major Asian nation witnessed a new quest for modernity in art after the dynastic decline in 1911 and got new momentum in May Fourth Movement in 1919. We come across Chinese artists after the visit of Rabindra Nath Tagore and Nandalal Bose in 1924 to China. Since then few Chinese and Indian artists had an urge to know each other to understand the new developments in art of both the leading Asian nations. But these important interactions went unnoticed. This book is an attempt to unearth the various modes of artistic exchanges and dialogues to know each other in 20th century. (jacket).
