Morris Alexander, founder of the B'nai Brith Commission for Israel and a leader of the hugely successful Israel Bond campaigns, views his subject "not with the objectivity of a reporter, but with the passion of a paramour." Alexander is able to observe Israel from a twin vantage point: as an American citizen and as a one~time immigrant to Israel. With wit and candor, the author describes his meetings and friendships with high~ranking Israeli and American leaders. Interspersed with inside stories of Israel's birth and development are fascinating vignettes of the daily lives of Israelis of all backgrounds. Subjective and undoubtedly controversial, Israel and Me is a lively chronicle of an insider's continuous connections with Israel over several decades. It is an eye~opening account for everyone, Jew and non~Jew, interested in penetrating the mystique of this seductive land. A lawyer, businessman, writer and painter, Morris Alexander was actively involved in efforts to establish and maintain the State of Israel. He was founder and chairman for fifteen years of the International B'nai Brith Commission for Israel, the first chairman of Israel Bonds in Chicago and the Midwest area, and co~founder of the new port city of Ashdod in Israel. In 1968 Alexander and his family emigrated to Israel but chose to return to the United States in 1972. …
