Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: No dj. First Edition. Early exposition of the principles of wireless radio telegraphy by British Physicist John Ambrose Fleming. At the time he worked as advisor to Guglielmo Marconi in his pioneering radio telecommunications experiments. The discoveries were controversial and Fleming with his reputation did much to underpin confidence in the new techniques. This was despite attacks from another great physicist of the day, Nevil Maskelyne. On this occasion, history has shown Maskelyne to be on the wrong side of the debate. The lectures were delivered before the Society of Arts on March 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd, 1903. The booklet is bound in a contemporary moire-cloth of the kind that might have adorned science exercise books of the period. The spine strip is intact with fraying at the ends and a split strting at the top of the front hinge. The hinges are delicate but should be OK if handled carefully. The boards are dusty with some powdery discolouration here and there. The text block is complete and in good order, ownername to flyleaf, occasional neat marginalia. The binding is relaxed in places, cracking in gutters in some places, again holding firm and not threatening to worsen. Many line diagrams in text of a detailed nature. 72pp. Size: 8vo.
