Blue boards highly decorated in gothic lettering, patterns and a portrait of Erasmus to front cover, repeated on spine. Spine sunned, rubbed, with a small portion missing at the top edge. Front hinge starting to fray, otherwise binding square and sound. Decoratd endpapers; front endpaper has a 'Merry Christmas' gift sticker from 1986. Half-title page has small ownership signature from 1913 and a blind embossed stamp of Wells Museum, Somerset. Colour frontispiece protected by tissue; decorated title page. Another colour plate, protected by tissue, at the end of the text. B/w illustrations throughout. 664pp., rough-cut pages, contents clean and bright, contemporary flower pressing between pp. 280 and 281.
