Two official League of Nations documents containing charges of border violations brought by Iraq against Persia, and Persia's rebuttal and counter-claims. Between them, they vividly capture the escalation of tensions in the lead up to diplomatic resolution on most of the issues in 1937 (Iran's concerns about navigating the Shatt-al-Arab outstanding). Foolscap, English language versions, 19pp with (1)pp Corrigenda laid in; 27pp with (1)pp Erratum to the English translation laid in. Document 1 good, tanned with short closed tears. Document 2 has unfortunately been torn entirely across its width, and the separated parts attached to one another with short pieces of clear tape applied to several leaves. The text however remains complete. In the first dated Baghdad, 19 Nov 1934, Iraq's Foreign Affairs Minister Nuri Said conveys his country's concerns to the League over perceived violations of the Treaty of Erzerum (1847), the Constantinople Protocol (1913) and related proceedings of the Delimitation Commission (1914). He attaches those texts together with "a summary of some of the more flagrant acts of aggression, with copies of the relevant correspondence" covering the Shatt-al-Arab, Persian Police Posts in Iraqi Territory, Binawa Suta, and Gunjan Cham River. In his reply dated Geneva, 8 Jan 1935, Persian Foreign Affairs Minister B. Kazemi seeks to demonstrate how "the alleged violation of the boundary-line are entirely without foundation", and draws attention to repeated acts of aggression by "armed brigands" entering Persia from Iraq. In support, he annexes letters the Persians sent to Iraq in 1932-3 describing "the encroachment of Iraqi Agents and Tribes on Persian territory", texts of the above mentioned Treaty and Protocol, related diplomatic notes and correspondence.
