John Collier (1837-1911) was a Scottish-born photographer who moved to Central City, Colorado in 1871, establishing one of the earliest photography studios there, before selling the business and moving to Denver to open another studio in 1878. This work was published to promote tourism & notable for the fine albumen photographs, each captioned in the negative, mounted on red bordered stiff leaves with the photographer's imprint under each photo. The number of photographs found varies between four and fifteen, with ten being the most common. It is possible copies were made to order & this is why there is no continuity between first editions. An interesting period account of pioneer Colorado, with sketches of emigrant routes, the gold rush, mountaineering, early pioneers, and life with the Ute Indians." Gift quality!
