John Henry O'Hara (1905-1970) was one of America's most prolific writers of short-stories, credited with helping to invent the The New Yorker magazine short story style. He became a best-selling novelist before the age of 30 with Appointment in Samarra and BUtterfield 8. His work was praised by contemporaries such as Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Few college students educated after O'Hara's death in 1970 have discovered him, chiefly because he refused to allow his work to be reprinted in anthologies and used to teach literature at the college level. A Rage to Live was a best-seller upon its release & is described as a large-scale social chronicle, depicting a wide swath of American society. Written in a Note in the beginning of the text is an explanation of what the fictional Fort Penn is based on: Harrisburg, PA. O'Hara writes: Harrisburg is one of my favorite cities; Dauphin County, where my mother was born, is the scene of the some of the happiest hours of my childhood, and the Susquehanna is an important and pleasant river." A novel based on Harrisburg, Pennsylvania! Gift quality. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers RAREA1949GJKG
