Smallish book approx. 6 inches tall, rebound with green cloth and new endpapers, old cloth of front cover with title lettered in gilt laid over the new cover; viii, 187 pages clean and unmarked but lightly age-toned. A scarce title by a prolific writer, Colton argues that the support of abolition is seditious since it will ultimately lead to the break-up of the Union. Howes A16 "a" gives publication date as 1838; this may be an error, copyright date on verso of title page and date at base of title page are both 1839, and WorldCat's earliest listing is also 1839.
