In his preface, Thomas Wright (1707-54) writes of this as a 'second Impression' of a book printed in London in 1712 - clearly meaning William Bentley's History of the famous Town of Halifax (E. Tracy, 1712), which was itself a reissue of his book Halifax and its gibbet-law placed in a true light (1708). However, the implication that Wright's book is a mere reprint is very misleading: the texts begin with the same words, and follow more or less the same path, but Wright has completely rewritten the original - even a verse translation from the Latin on p. 23 is an entirely new rendering. There appears to be a belief that this book should have a frontispiece, but that is not so, and none is called for by ESTC or in any online library catalogue consulted: I think such a belief must be based on the presence of one in the 1712 edition of Bentley's book.
