Bertram Thomas's account of his expedition across the scarcely populated Rub Al-Khali (also known as the Empty Quarter) desert in the Arabian Peninsula, with special anthropological attention paid to the appearances and lifestyles of the people he encountered. Includes some of the pseudoscientific craniofacial measuring and "race science" of which Bertram was a follower. Black-and-white photographs, maps, and diagrams accompany the text throughout.
