A complete four volume, first edition set of Some Account of Domestic Architecture in England, with plates. A complete four volume set, with volume three in two parts.The first volume (1851) discusses the architecture of the period from the Conquest to the end of the thirteenth century, with one hundred and ten plates to volume one.Volume two (1853) discusses from Edward I to Richard II and has ninety three plates and many in-text illustrations.Volume three part one (1859) from Richard II to Henry VIII has sixty nine plates and many in-text illustrations.Volume three part two (1859) from Richard II to Henry VIII has fifty six plates and and many in-text illustrations.Collated, complete.Due to T. Hudson Turner's untimely death the second volume and subsequent volumes were completed by the editor of The Glossary of Architecture, John Henry Parker. From the library of Doctor Malcolm Higgs, an important architectural historian who worked as an assistant architect to Stirling & Gowan, working on their particularly renowned Leicester University Engineering Laboratory. During his long career he taught at the University of Edinburgh School of Architecture, Canterbury School of Architecture, and University of Nottingham. Later in his life he was the Vice-President and Honorary Librarian of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and contributed and edited the "Journal of Architecture". All four volumes are in the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with bumping to the head and tail of the spine, marks to the spine of vol. i, split to the tail of the spine of vol. iii part i. Previous owner bookplates to the front pastedowns and rear pastedowns for John Thompson. Previous owner pencil inscriptions to the rear endpaper of vols i, ii and iii part ii. Front hinge is starting to vols i,ii and iii part i but remain firm. Previous owner pen inscription tot he page after the front free endpaper of vol i.
