Published for the author in Edinburgh in 1784, this is the First Edition of this scarce publication, being an alphabetical list of the entails in Scotland, regarding land tenure and property inheritance, seemingly covering all the major landowners estates in 18th century Scotland, bound in a full reverse calf leather, (viii) 145 [5] 145 pages plus preface and appendix, with the armorial crested bookplate of its original owner, William Cunningham of Lainshaw (1731?1799) who was a leading Tobacco Lord who headed one of the major Glasgow syndicates that came to dominate the transatlantic tobacco trade. Most of the tobacco shipped from American slave plantations was sold to France. He later also made a further fortune stockpiling tobacco bought at keen prices shortly before the American Revolution, assuming that Great Britain would not be able to retain control over her rebellious colonies, and then selling at high prices. There is some wear to the leather binding with some loss, splits and wear to joints at spine ends though boards well attached, internally title page browned at edges else contents generally nice and clean.
